While Zanzibar has become a popular tourism destination, with its gorgeous beaches and fantastic marine life, just 160km South lies an island which is virtually unknown. Mafia Island, is surrounded by a barrier reef and a haven to provide excellent opportunities for diving and snorkeling. The channels are well known for world class deep-sea fishing and home to endangered species including the manatee.
The island is also a sanctuary for birdlife, perfect for any bird enthusiast who wants to enjoy this highlight from the beach shore or on a dhow excursion.
Mafia has a relatively dry tropical climate with rains in April to May as well as short rains in November to beginning of December.
This island not only offers some of the richest reefs in the world but with no crowds to compete with, the island has miles and miles of lonely beach, perfect for swimming, sailing or relaxing on the beach with a good book.
Here at Africa Sky we offer some fantastic Mafia Island lodges with some great offers. Mafia Island is a perfect getaway and can be added on to any safari trip. Please call our advisors for more details…
