Booking holidays

Holidays are always a very emotive subject. It is the one thing in the year we all look forward to and somehow is a barometer of how well our year is going. Have a bad holiday and we tend to write the year off as ‘One to forget’. It is therefore imperative that we at Africa Sky try to match clients with the very best itinerary possible. Clients are often not aware of quite how much this influences our suggestions of places to stay and things to do. As Africa is sometimes considered the ‘dark’ continent and somehow scary, this rack up the stakes somewhat to ensure that what we offer is perfect for each and every client.

Everyone has different ways of spending their precious holiday time and it is  imperative that we try to gleam this information from clients in order to make the right choices. A lot of time is spent talking to customers to ensure that this happens. We therefore strongly recommend that you call or email us when you are making enquiries and give us as much detail as possible.

We are committed to providing perfect escapes for all our clients and it is a great testament that we have barely a handful of complaints a year from people back from holiday.  As with anything,  things happen and this year has been no exception. We have had raging volcanos, cabin crew strikes, tropical storms and general airport chaos to deal with but we contiune to grow as a business and thank our lucky stars that whilst travel companies do continue to close their doors, the outlook for Africa Sky (and all its sister companies) is a healthy one.  So what are you waiting for… Give us a call and let us put something together for you that will not ruin your year but make it!

Kenya -Beach and Bush Stay August 2010

Below is some comments received from some of our clients recently returned from Kenya

We arrived home  having had a brilliant holiday.  All your advice re weather, mosquitoes, etc etc was ‘spot on’ – thank you.

To answer your questions:
No, we’d not travelled with Africa Sky before.  I was browsing the internet when I saw it. Yes, your website was accurate and easy to use.
All the service regarding booking arrangements was excellent.
The holiday lived up to our expectations – in some areas it surpassed them.
The safari was wonderful – our guide (Nditchi ?spelling ) was a delight – very knowledgeable and keen to see us have a brilliant time. Satao camp was outstanding – accommodation, food, service – all first class. As for the location – well, what could be better than being so close to a watering hole frequented by lions, hippos, elephants – the lot.
My only criticism  would be the vehicle – if I went on safari again I would insist on an enclosed jeep – I didn’t like being in a completely open-sided car – especially given that it broke down. I felt very nervous at that point; my family loved it though. (They don’t have to wash all the dust out of the clothes!!!)
Pinewood was excellent – good room, pool, entertainment. The food was outstanding – but best of all was the service – we truly felt so welcome and felt honoured to get a slightly better understanding of the lovely Kenyan people.

Special mention must go to Ephraim (a truly wonderful and extremely professional waiter), Ngonemy (pool bar – such a friendly and likeable lady) and Mohammed (housekeeper who did a first class job) as they reallly were superb

The beach was a little disappointing though as the hotel clearly keeps its guests well back from the ‘beach boys’. Such a waste of a beautiful beach.
Yes, I would recommend Africa Sky to friends (in fact I have already done so).

Thank you  for terrific service.

Poaching – The hidden cost

Written by Grant on 21/09/10, filed under General | No Comments

Another five rhinos were brutally slain by poachers in the Pilanesberg Nature Reserve, South Africa over this last weekend. The rhinos, found with their horns sawn off, bring the total number of rhino deaths since January to a startling 210, a 50% increase from last year’s total of 140, and an average of almost 18 deaths a month.

Today, rhino poaching operations are slick, well-funded and professional, with the use of night-vision scopes, silencers and even helicopters regularly used to carry out their illegal and cruel missions.

Desperate times have called for desperate measures, with many operations, including most recently, Likweti Sanctuary in Mpumalanga, taking the difficult decision to dehorn its rhino population. Others have taken an even more controversial approach, with threats of injecting cyanide into rhino horn to drive down demand, which mostly stems from Asia.

Aparently some animal vets have been held in connection with the deaths of these magnificent creatures and quite honestly, if they are found guilty then they should be strung up.  Poaching is a terrible thing for Africa as it robs future generations of any chance to benefit from the tourism generated from protecting these creatures.
