A lot has been said about the Masai Mara and for good reason, its the most popular known national park, tucked away in southwest Kenya. The size of the reserve and the landscape in comparison with some of the giants like Amboseli, immediately shows that there must be something extraordinary about this park.
I recently took a trip to the masai mara with a group of colleagues and can understand why so many people each year travel back there, I completely fell in love with it. My first Kenyan holiday and
I could not fault it, friendly staff, great food, gorgeous scenery and amazing wildlife. We stayed at the 4* eco friendly Porini Lion Camp which is situated just outside the national park in the Olare Orok Conservancy. The camp has 10 exclusive tents which are all en-suite and spacious. Here we enjoyed various gamedrives throughout the day including night drives and sundowners.
We had several encounters with prides of lions, this included a male lion lying in the field across from our tent and a close call for a wildebeest against a lioness. W
e also even got to see a leopard cub on one of our night drives, where the guide explained that this was a very rare as leopards in this area is very limited.
My stay at the camp could not have been any better, I cannot thank the staff enough for all there efforts in making the experience outstanding.
