Gazi Retreat
If you are looking for something a little bit special then Gazi is it! No children are allowed and so it is a peaceful paradise for those of you that want a romantic hideaway or just a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The accommodation - 8 luxury rustic tents dotted around the gardens, provide a 4 poster bed in the middle of your room with a mosquito net, there is air conditioning and you also have your own mini bar that is always full. In the middle of the retreat is a small pool for relaxation and is open 24 hours for those who like to take a mid night dip. There is one restaurant and bar, the food is amazing, I definitely recommend the ginger prawns that can be found on the lunch menu! there are no set meal times so just eat when you fancy it. The Gazi retreat is an eco friendly resort and so the the generator comes on at 6pm until 6am.
This resort is the complete getaway, with no phones or internet access but you do get mobile coverage. It sits on a Mangrove so to get to the beach/sand dunes you can be transported by the hotels boat or you can wait for low tide and take a walk. If you want to go to the sand dunes then the hotel can provide a picnic and take you round and leave you there for the day. I have to say it is beautiful, the water is so clear and you will find that it is only you there, it is only accessed by Gazi and so is completely private. You can also use the boat for snorkelling or bird watching at no extra cost. There is also a small Muslim village near by that you can visit, this is extra and they welcome you with open arms, this is a great opportunity to give some pens, pencils books etc to help the children with school.
Gazi retreat is on the south coast, by road and car ferry takes +/- 2 and half hours to transfer or 20 – 30 minutes from Ukunda.
